History of the Manor House Inn

The Manor House dates from approximately 1760 and is situated on land associated with Henry de Bolbec, who built nearby Blanchland Abbey in the time of William the Conqueror. De Bolbec received several fiefdoms for services rendered unto William. The Bolbec name persists in an office block in Newcastle and in a street name to the east of the city.
